Peter Woodin Linley founded Ergo Air Incorporated in 1995. He
was among the first in the industry, to introduce to the United
States a specialty therapeutic bed from England. In the 1970’s,
his first company, Patient Care Systems, introduced new clinical
methods for the treatment of pressure ulcers. Patient Care Systems
developed the first outcomes program for the prevention and
healing of pressure ulcers. In 1985, with the consulting help
of ET nurses, PCS developed the first low air loss therapy chair,
the Dermarest. The Dermarest was therapeutically effective in
most aspects, but lacked in pelvic stability and remained an
unresolved dilemma.

In 1987, Patient Care Systems was sold and the Dermarest therapeutic
seating technology retired. Until the 90’s when Mr. Linley
went to Hugh O’Neill, Chief of Prosthetics at Stanford
Medical Center, and ask him to develop a therapeutic seating
surface. He designed a two-bladder alternating support surface
that would be able to suspend areas of the pelvis and provide
great pelvic stability. This was the birth of a new company
and technology.
Ergo Air Inc. was established and led with this new technology
that they called ErgoDynamic™ Therapeutic Seating Systems.
In theory this system would allow a person with chronic pressure
ulcers to sit on their wounds and continue healing. Through
studies and peer review papers done on ErgoDynamic™ Therapeutic
Seating the response has been clear that Mr. Linley and O’Neil’s
theories are correct. The biggest case came from Bronx VA in
the fall of 2002, with a laser Doppler study. This study found
that ErgoDynamic™ therapeutic seating can product up to
500% more blood and lymph flow to the pelvic region than any
standard static cushion. Ergo Air Inc. is also working closely
with rehabilitation Doctors and nurses to continue the metamorphosis
of ErgoDynamic™ Therapeutic Seating. |
